Our mission at the Southern Sierra Research Station is to conduct, promote, facilitate, and disseminate biological research. We want our research to inform conservation decisions and environmental policy, and contribute towards understanding, sustaining and conserving natural resources and environmentally challenged species.
Our approach is both regional and international, reflecting the life cycles of the species we study, and is enriched by collaborative partnerships across the Americas.
Our Vision
The Core Of Our Work
Here at the Southern Sierra Research Station, we design, conduct, support and disseminate biological research on a diversity of organisms. We aim to understand fundamental ecological, evolutionary, environmental and behavioral processes as well as factors/pressures that influence the conservation of species and communities.
Where We Work
Our research encompasses the regional concerns of California and the southwestern United States and will expand internationally, as necessary, in order to more completely understand the life cycles of the species we study. When feasible, we will consider both the breeding and wintering grounds, as well as the migratory pathways of species.
For Who?
Our research will support the information needs of federal, state and local governments as well as non-government organizations and commercial businesses where common research interests exist. We will plan and prioritize the pursuit of such research in concert with our evolving mission and visions as they seek to keep pace with emerging global challenges. Our research services will be conducted with uncompromising integrity and ethical standards.
In Partnership
We will develop regional, national and international collaborative partnerships with other research organizations, non-governmental organizations, special interest groups, academic institutions, and government agencies to promote a dynamic community of scientists and expand the applications of our collaborative research.
Sharing Our Results
The results of our investigations will be delivered to relevant stakeholders and the public as technical reports, published peer-reviewed articles in journals, and/or as presentations at professional meetings. We will disseminate our research within the scientific community, and will also conduct education and public outreach activities in the local community to improve appreciation and awareness of scientific research results and trends.
